SUMMARY:CANCELLED - Mindfulness Meditation Workshop
DESCRIPTION:CANCELLED\nOverview:\nInstruction will be offered on Shamatha meditation (Shamatha is a Tibetan word meaning “peacefully abiding”)\, with the opportunity to practice in a group setting. Participants of all skill levels (beginner to expert) are welcome. Instruction will address the impact of trauma on our internal worlds\, and will be presented as a tool to re-connect\, ground and begin to make friends with our bodies and ourselves. There will be opportunities to ask questions after instruction and before meditative practice. Following meditation\, there will be an open discussion on compassion\, and how it relates to the self. We will end the workshop with another meditation\, followed by a short moment for additional questions to be asked before participants leave. A DRCC support person will be on site to assist anyone who may need it.\n  \nAbout the Instructor:\nErin Vanderstelt is an authorized Shambhala Guide (Shamatha Meditation Instructor)\, course leader\, coordinator for teacher development for the Great Lakes region and founder of the Oshawa based-meditation group. DESCRIPTION:This is a FREE workshop for survivors of sexual violence who would like the opportunity for healing by connecting with horses.  Through this workshop\, horses will teach you skills that will encourage balance and inspire new life directions. It is an opportunity to remind you how wonderful it can be to connect\, trust\, be seen\, heard and valued. \nNo previous experience with horses is required.  We will not be riding horses.  We will be grooming and walking horses as well as leading them through an obstacle course. \nYou can bring a support person.  Two DRCC staff will be there for support. \nWe will be meeting at DRCC and taking a bus together to Audley Road Stables (Herd Dynamics) in Ajax. \nPlease note that this event is full.  We will be holding another event in the fall. \nIf interested in the fall event please contact Jackie at jackie@drcc.ca or call 905 444-9672 ext. 22 \nWe would like to thank the 100 Women Who Care Clarington for without their donation this workshop would not be possible.
