Information For Students
Applying for a Student Placement
The Durham Rape Crisis Centre recognizes the importance of giving back to the community by supporting students in their educational pursuits.
We do accept student placement applications from both colleges and universities from a variety of programs. Please contact us to explore whether the goals of your student placement program would be a good fit with our agency mandate and vision, as well as more general information about what we can offer to students.
Currently, we cannot accept student placements who require a placement supervisor with MSW credentials. We also limit the number of students we can accept throughout the year.
Please note that references are typically given once a placement has been completed.
If you are interested in a student placement beginning in September, please contact our Community and Crisis Services Manager by May. If you are interested in a placement for January, contact her by October. If you are interested in a student placement for the summer, please contact her by March.
If you are interested in exploring the Durham Rape Crisis Centre as a placement site, please contact Emma, Community and Crisis Services Manager at emma@drcc.ca or by calling 437-228-7396 with a copy of your most recent resume.
Please note that at present, we cannot accommodate students for a placement. We will be interviewing students only for Summer 2025 and Fall 2025 start dates.
Youth Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) Requests
YPI is an inclusive, multi-award-winning approach to grant-making that grows compassionate communities by connecting high school students to social issues, local charities, and philanthropy at a pivotal stage in their adolescence.
The Durham Rape Crisis Centre started as a grassroots non-profit organization, and has been involved in the YPI Program offered at Durham Region Public Schools for many years. We would be happy to meet with you!
